SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has questioned the state government whether it has conducted COVID-19 tests on armed personnel such as the Border Security Force (BSF) and Army while entering the state.
The union has urged the state government to make it mandatory that armed personnel entering the state should mandatorily get themselves tested for COVID-19 at the centres placed at the entry points of the state.
The president of the JSU Shillong Circle, Treiborlang R Suchen, stated that he has witnessed troops of army men roaming around for the purpose of grocery goods at public markets in the last few days in the city.
He said, “What if they had also gone shopping elsewhere in different districts of the state where their headquarters and camps are located?”
