NONGSTOIN: As many as six shops were totally damaged while many others partially affected after a fire broke out in Riangdo market, a delayed report said.
Secretary of Riangdo village Aibor L Nonglait informed that the fire was likely to spread to the Meghalaya Rural Bank with flames blazing high, however, the villagers along with the fire fighters managed to control the inferno.
Nonglait said that the total cost of the damage was not yet ascertained.
The villagers and shop owners suspect that the fire resulted due to short circuit in one of the shops. They were grateful to the fire service department for controlling the fire which could affect more shops as well as adjoining areas, especially the Meghalaya Rural Bank, Riangdo branch.
