TURA: The failure to take action against a corrupt VEC Secretary by the office of the Selsella C&RD Block has prompted the job card holders to approach the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner for justice.

Hasan Ali, VEC Secretary of Garodubi VEC-I was on February 3 this year, found guilty by block officials of misappropriating wage money meant for job card holders for four years since 2016, by way of crediting the amount to the bank accounts of his own nephew and other relatives, after conduct of an enquiry.

During the enquiry which was conducted on the direction of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma himself, it was found that while Ali had entered the correct names and job card numbers of the job card holders, the bank accounts submitted by the VEC Secretary belonged to his own nephew and other family members.

The complainants added that while Ali was elected as the VEC Secretary in 2010 for three years, he continues to hold the post till today without the holding of any elections which is in violation VEC norms.

Stating that countless job card holders who depend on their wages have been cheated over the years by the corrupt VEC official, the job card holders demanded the immediate filing of an FIR against him as well as his termination from the post.
