TURA: Stern action has been sought against the family of a rape accused who have been tormenting the victim and her family and refusing to allow them way of pass through the locality for the last few months in North Garo Hills district.
The 16-year-old mentally challenged girl was raped by her neighbour and left pregnant in May this year. The accused was subsequently arrested under the POCSO Act and remains in prison under judicial custody.
Following the arrest of the rapist, his family began tormenting the victim and her family as they live in the same neighbourhood. Things have gone to such a pass that the family of the rape accused has now prohibited the victim and her family from using the same locality road which passes through their place since May.
The family of the accused rapist is allegedly trying to exert pressure on the victim to retract her police complaint and a visit by the district child protection officer failed to make the family see reason.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of North Garo Hills has instructed the police chief to look into the case and take necessary action for intimidating the victim saying there will be zero tolerance for any such criminal attempts.
