SHILLONG: Mawkliaw village will hold a dorbar (meeting) soon in the wake of the village headman, Reebith Riahtam, alleging that they faced an “embarrassing situation” after a staff of Mawkliaw PHC disallowed the volunteers of the village to monitor the violations of social distancing at the PHC.
The PHC at Mawkliaw has no permanent doctor and the doctor of Laitlyngkot PHC, who has been given the charge to look after it, visits the PHC only twice a week.
Riahtam said that it is disheartening to see that not more than 180 patients visit the PHC and violate social distancing norms as there are very few staff in the PHC to monitor.
“There was verbal discussion with the doctor that the village will come along with three volunteers. On June 1, I took the volunteers only to be shocked as the ward boy, who registered the names of the patients, vehemently opposed this. He was aghast as he was not aware of the discussion,” Riahtam said.
Due to the opposition from the ward boy, Riahtam had to take back the volunteers.
To add to the lack of manpower woes, the PHC does not have an ambulance and a generator.
