NONGSTOIN: The Synjuk of all the School Managing Committee under School Managing Committee Association West Khasi Hills District (SMCA-WKH), in a meeting on Monday, suggested that the government should allow reopening of schools with only classes 8 and above being functional.
D Marbaniang, president of SMCA-WKHD, while speaking to pressmen here, said that students from Class 8 and above can be handled easily and they can be given awareness or make them follow advisories on COVID-19. (Marbaniang asserted that reopening of all classes is not acceptable.
With regard to the government assistance to state schools having area of 2.5 acre in urban areas and 3.5 acre in rural areas, Marbaniang said that the decision is unacceptable as majority of the schools in West Khasi Hills do not have such coverage of land area.
In this regard, the association has appealed to the state government to relax the decision so that many schools will not be cut off from the assistance.
Further, the association urged the state government to follow the footsteps of its Assam counterpart, which has decided to bear the expenses of the school fees of all students.
