NONGSTOIN: Two persons from Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills have been identified as primary contacts of a positive patient from Umsamlem, Ri Bhoi.
The DM&HO, West Khasi Hills, Dr M Bareh informed that following contact tracing of the COVID-19 positive patient, the two individuals — one from Pyndengrei and another from Maweit — were detected as primary contacts. Bareh said that the two contacts had spent the night at the residence of the COVID patient at Umsamlem on May 5.
The DM&HO informed that after receiving this information, the medical team from Nongstoin followed necessary procedures and the swab sample of one of the patient was collected and sent for testing.
However, the sample of the person from Maweit was yet to be taken as he was on his way from Maweit to Nongstoin, the DM&HO added.
Meanwhile, M Marwein, Sordar of Pyndengrei village, on Wednesday, told The Shillong Times over the phone that the whole family of the primary contact was quarantined in their residence and barricade was also put up by the volunteers of the village.
Marwein said that essential commodities will be provided by the village Dorbar for 14 days.
The village volunteers were posted round the clock near the residence to ensure that the family members do not move in and out.
The Sordar hoped that the test result of the primary contact from his village comes out negative, stating that he has been in contact with numerous people since his arrival from Umsamlem.
