JOWAI: The Joint Action Committee of transporters and truck owners’ associations have decided to go on an indefinite strike against transportation of all products of East Jaintia cement plants from June 15.
The decision was taken in a meeting held on Friday at Phramer, where members of the All Jaintia Cement and Clinker Transporters Association (AJCCTA), Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA) and the Meghalaya Trucker’s Union (MTU) attended.
They pointed out that the cement plants in East Jainntia Hills under the banner of the All Jaintia Hills
Cement Manufacturer’s Association (AJHCMA) failed to follow the government’s order to implement the revised rate for transportation including passengers and goods carriers.
JHTOA president, Nidamon Chullet requested all transporters, truck owners to unite in the fight against the cements companies in East Jaintis Hills.
It may be mentioned that the order of the state government issued by the Transport Department hiked the transportation charges up to Rs  9, Rs 10 and Rs 12 based on the cost of the trucks and the condition of the road.
AJCCTA Chief,  Balen Thubru informed that cement plants in East Jaintia Hills violated all government rates scheduled.
‘Prior to the revised rate, the transportation charges were only Rs 0. 70 paise per quintal per kilometer, however, the cement plants are paying even less than that”, Thubru added.
They had also met Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar who assured that he would look into the matter.
