TURA: Following the complaints from citizens with regard to exorbitant prices for meat and poultry products being sold in the town, the Tura Municipal Board (TMB) revised the rates on Wednesday after a meeting with stakeholders of the town.
While pork and beef have been priced at Rs 290 per kg, hiked by Rs 10, mutton has been priced at Rs 630 per kg, seeing a hike of Rs 30.
Local chicken has been priced at Rs 340, while dressed and undressed broilers have been priced at Rs 250 and Rs 150 respectively.
Ever since the lockdown began, prices of essential commodities including food items such as meat and poultry have more than doubled at several places of Garo Hills.
Chicken was going for around Rs 300 a kg, while pork and beef even touched Rs 400 a kg in some places. Turing the paucity to advantage, the traders had even raised the price of mutton to a whopping Rs 800 per kg, fleecing many customers.
