GUWAHATI: North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and senior BJP leader, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said the crisis in the BJP-led Manipur government would be resolved in the next two to three days, in sync with the “spirit of NEDA and NDA’s (National Democratic Alliance) principles.”
The Manipur government led by N. Biren Singh had plunged into crisis after nine members of the BJP-led coalition, including four ministers of National People’s Party (NPP), resigned on June 17.
Sarma along with Meghalaya chief minister and NPP national president, Conrad K. Sangma had flown to Imphal on Sunday for discussions with BJP legislators, as well as its regional ally NPP, to iron out differences between the two parties.
“The situation is under control. Tomorrow, I will be going to Manipur again. So we are consulting with all our MLAs and discussions are taking place in a positive manner. Things will be resolved in the next two to three days in the spirit of NEDA and NDA’s principles. There is nothing to worry,” Sarma informed reporters here on Monday.
Asked if the BJP-led alliance in Manipur would comprise the same parties, he said, “The architecture might be different because after the Rajya Sabha election many MLAs have been disqualified by the Assembly Speaker. So, anyway Manipur will have by-elections, as once the Speaker passes a certain order it cannot be revoked.”
The NEDA convener however chose not to elaborate further but said he might divulge more details during a media conference in Imphal on Tuesday.
