Indonesia volcano erupts
Jakarta: Indonesia’s Mount Merapi volcano erupted on Sunday, spewing a column of ash by up to 6 km high, and the highest level of flight alert was issued.
The wind was blowing to the west of the crater and the residents living near the volcano which is situated in Indonesia’s main Java Island are barred from entering the area within a radius of 3 km from the crater, Xinhua news agency quoted the National Volcanology Agency as saying.
A volcano observatory notice for aviation with red code was issued by the agency after the eruption as it endangers planes which are prohibited from passing through the air space around the volcano. (IANS)

Migrants found hidden in tanker
LJubljana: Police in Slovenia say they discovered 22 migrants, including from India, hiding in two food-grade tanker trucks.
The migrants were found inside the trucks on Saturday at the border with Croatia, police said. The trucks had Serbian license plates. Slovenian police said the people inside the tanks could have suffocated. They were from Bangladesh, India, Turkey and Syria, police said. Officers first discovered 13 people in one truck at the border before searching another belonging to the same company, where they found nine more. (AP)

Temp hits 100 F in Russian town
Moscow: A Siberian town with the world’s widest temperature range has recorded a new high amid a hear wave that is contributing to severe forest fires.
Russia’s meteorological service said the temperature in Verkhoyansk hit 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 F) on Saturday. The town is located above the Arctic Circle in the Sakha Republic, about 4,660 kilometers (2,900 miles) northeast of Moscow. The town of about 1,300 residents is recognized by the Guinness World Records for the most extreme temperature range, with a low of minus-68 degrees C (minus-90 F) and a previous high of 37.2 C (98.96 F..) B’desh resumes intl flights
Dhaka: Bangladesh’s national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines resumed international flights on Sunday after a gap of three months due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The maiden flight of BG001 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for London with 187 passengers on board, airline’s Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) TaheraKhandaker told The Daily Star. (PTI)
