SHILLONG: The CEM KHADC, Titoswell Chyne informed that the status of Kulsi Dam Project is under examination by the committee constituted by the state government for the purpose.

A national project of the Brahmaputra Board, Kulsi project is in the disputed border between Kamrup district of Assam and Meghalaya in the West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi district.

Replying to a supplementary question, CEM said that joint inspection of the project was held in 2019 but there was no information to the traditional heads about the inspection.

He said that he would write to the committee to include local representatives of Meghalaya as demanded by Congress MDC, Bajop Pyngrope.

Stating that the local Khasi name of Kulsi is Wah Khri, he said that allowing the project will affect the sovereignty of the state and it will have an impact on the ecological balance and the catchment area.

He alleged that officials of the project were lobbying and had also offered him money to support the project.

The CEM KHADC said that he would meet the Water Resources Minister over the matter and after that would  decide whether to oppose the project or not.
