Russia ready for talks on issues
Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that the country is open for dialogue and cooperation on the most burning issues, including creating a common reliable system of security, which the complex and rapidly-changing world needs. “We understand how important it is to strengthen friendship and confidence among peoples … Only by uniting together can we protect the world from new dangerous threats,” Putin said on Wednesday. Six killed in Afghanistan
Kabul: Six civilians were killed when the car in which they were travelling in struck a roadside bomb in northern Afghanistan’s Jawzjan province, provincial government spokesman Abdul Maroof Azar said on Wednesday. Three children and two women are among the victims, the official said, adding that the bombing took place on Tuesday at Mardian district of the province. Meanwhile, Interior Ministry spokesman Tareq Arian blamed the Taliban insurgents for organising the deadly bombing. (IANS)
Three found dead in US
New York: Three Indian-origin family members, including an 8-year-old girl, have been found dead in the backyard pool of their recently purchased home in New Jersey, police said. Bharat Patel, 62, his 33-year old daughter-in-law Nisha Patel and her 8-year-old daughter, drowned accidently in the above-ground pool in East Brunswick on Monday, police was quoted as saying by the NJ.com. Investigators have not determined how all three family members drowned, but were seeking to determine if they were not strong swimmers and panicked when reaching deeper water, it said. (IANS)
Yoga varsity launched in US
New York: As part of the 6th International Yoga Day commemorations, the world’s first yoga university outside India has been launched in Los Angeles, offering programmes that combine scientific principles and modern research approaches to the ancient Indian practice. The Vivekananda Yoga University (VaYU) was jointly launched on Tuesday by Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan and Chairperson of the Standing Committee on External Affairs P P Chaudhary during a virtual event held at the Consulate General of India in New York. Founded on the principles of Swami Vivekananda’s prescription for universal welfare, VaYU will offer online programmes based on scientific principles and modern research approaches to yoga. (PTI)
