SHILLONG: Despite resentment from the officials and staff of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) on the style of functioning of the Chairperson-cum-Managing Director of MeECL, the authorities are yet to act. The chairperson is also holding the post of Director, Corporate Affairs.
Sources on Saturday alleged that postings and transfers were effected on personal considerations without adhering to rules or consulting and taking into confidence the Directors and the Chief Engineers. There has also been instances of alleged highhandedness where circulars and orders that originated from the office of the Director (Distribution) and the office of the Chief Engineer (Distribution) were not allowed to sign by the heads of offices but were signed by the Chairperson-cum-Managing Director which is irregular.
Another allegation is about the wasteful expenditure in the appointment of a Consultant, who is a retired Chief Engineer (Distribution).
The sources alleged nepotism in the appointment of the retired official who happens to be the close relative of the CMD.
The appointment has hurt the sentiments of the Directors and the Chief Engineers who are still in service and senior to the Consultant.
Questions have been raised as to how a person who has been in the Distribution wing for so long can be appointed as Consultant for all the three subsidiaries – Generation, Transmission and Distribution when he has no expertise on the other two subsidiaries-Generation and Transmission.
The appointment has eroded the morale of officers besides adversely affecting the
financial health of the organisation that has been burdened with so many liabilities.
