SHILLONG: With the arrest of a gang of kidnappers in West Garo Hills comprising mostly surrendered GNLA cadres, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has stressed the need to further strengthen the network of the state police.
Rymbui said that the kidnappers were arrested through the cooperation of the people and timely intervention of the police.
Asked if he feels it is a cause of concern, Rymbui said, “There are always some elements who will try to come up with ways to disturb peace and tranquility of the state”.
Stating that the state government has been working to integrate the surrendered militants back to mainstream, Rymbui said that there are many categories of people with different mindsets and they join groups with some motives. “Once they are over ground, it is our duty to integrate them to the mainstream and even after trying some people still resort to crime but on our side we will try to reform them,” he added.
Accepting that such gangs exist, the Home Minister said that cooperation of the public and police is of prime importance.
