TURA: State’s principal regional party, National People’s Party (NPP) has vowed to fight all forms of discrimination against of Northeast citizens in the country and at the same time work for national integration and inculcate “respect for one another”.
In its digital conclave held on Saturday, and attended by party functionaries from different parts of the country, the party adopted a resolution affirming that ”National People’s Party believes in the spirit of our Nation’s founding fathers that our Nation arose in unity amongst diversity”.
The resolution further said “it is in this firm belief that we pledge to voice against discrimination faced by citizens of the North East in various parts of our country and to work towards national integration and respect for one another. As the only Party with a National status originating from the North East Region, we unanimously pass a resolution to voice and fight against discrimination of North East citizens based on race, culture region and religion.”
The “Digital Conclave” was attended by the National President Conrad K. Sangma, National Secretaries James K. Sangma, Mutchu Mithi, Dr. Lalrintluanga Jahau, Sashank Ghatraj, Thomas Sangma including President of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram.
Addressing the conclave, NPP president Conrad K. Sangma welcomed the new members of the party from North Bengal as well as expressed his congratulations to newly elected Rajya Sabha Member from Meghalaya Dr. W. R. Kharlukhi, who also attended the meeting via video conference.
“Political scenario in the nation, particularly Northeast has seen a lot of change in the past few years. We clearly see that there is a vacuum as far as leadership is concerned. Today people are becoming politically inclined and sensitive as they want political parties to represent their aspiration. In this situation, the role and responsibility for a party like NPP is of paramount importance,” he said.
“In every State, there are different issues and concerns, however, there are also issues that are common to a particular region, like discrimination of people from NE in rest of India, we as NPP have to connect to all our citizens and resolve to unitedly fight for our rights,” Sangma added.
He expressed happiness that in less than six years of its formation, NPP had got the status of a national party, whereas many other political parties were still struggling.
