NONGSTOIN: The National Highway 127–B connecting Nongstoin to Rongjeng, which had earlier cracked open, on Wednesday, collapsed due to the rain.
Villagers from Nongshram told The Shillong Times over the phone that the road, which has no support or guard wall, washed away after heavy rainfall.
They said that there is no risk for vehicles to pass through the road as the PWD has widened the affected area and also no landslide has been reported as of now.
A report was sent to the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, Shillong, by the Superintending Engineer (Western Circle) and the former has taken cognizance of the situation.
A contractor from Shillong has undertaken the work of repairing the road.
