WGH extends night curfew
TURA: The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner has extended the night curfew in the district till August 1. The curfew, which will be in effect from 9 pm to 5 am every day, carries with it the restrictions and relaxations mentioned in the previous orders. Also, the operation of private and public transport plying on odd numbers ending with 1,3,5,7,9 and even number ending with 0,2 4 6 8 remains the same.

Holiday in WJH on Friday
JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner has declared a local holiday on July 24 on the account of Sein Raij Tuber Behdeinkhlam annual festival. It may be mentioned that July 24 marks the last day of the festival. According to the order, all state government offices including judicial courts and other institutional establishments will remain closed.

Bank helps 6 dists in COVID fight
SHILLONG: The Punjab National Bank (PNB), as part of its ‘PNB Fights Corona’ Initiatives, distributed face masks in six districts, viz. East Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Khasi Hills and North Garo Hills recently.

Unclaimed body
SHILLONG: A highly-decomposed female body was found afloat at Umiam river on July 13, following which it was taken to Civil Hospital Shillong for post-mortem. After the autopsy, the body has been kept at the hospital’s morgue room for identification process. Anyone who can identify the body can contact 9436309133 or 0364-2222214.

Cops bust kidnappers’ gang
TURA: Following the rescue of a worker, Md Abdul Rahim, from Mahendraganj, the police from South West and West Garo Hills nabbed four of the kidnappers including the gang leader. One of the detained is a juvenile. The arrested men are Tangbath R Sangma, Nitsrang T Sangma, Rengan Ch Marak and Lahen R Marak. A fifth suspect identified as German was later arrested from Betasing. Police have identified the mastermind as arrested criminal Tangbath R Sangma. The accused is a history sheeter having extortion and kidnapping cases against him in Mendipathar and Nangalbibra. He had been released on bail only in June, last month. Another of the arrested men, known as German, was also previously charge-sheeted twice and was also out on bail.
