3 killed in Pak family feud

Peshawar: A woman and her two sons were shot dead on Tuesday by armed assailants belonging to a rival clan in northwest Pakistan, police said.

The incident happened at Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The attackers broke into the house of one Abdul Nasir and opened fire on the family members, police said.

Nasir’s wife and their two sons were killed in the firing, while his father was critically injured and was rushed to a hospital in Peshawar. According to police, the killings were the result of an old family enmity. (PTI)

Armed man holding 20 hostage

Kyiv: An armed man seized a bus and took some 20 people hostage in northwestern Ukraine on Tuesday, Ukrainian police said.

Police sealed off the center of Lutsk, a city 400 kilometers (250 miles) west of Kyiv,. The assailant is armed and carrying explosives, they said in a Facebook statement.

Police officers are trying to get in touch with the man. They have already identified him and said that he expressed frustration with Ukraine’s system on his social media pages.

Ukrainian media reported that gunshots could be heard at the scene. (AP)

New Zealand lawmaker quits

Wellington: A New Zealand lawmaker abruptly resigned on Tuesday after being accused of sending sexually explicit images to women and lying about it to both police and his conservative party’s leader.

Andrew Falloon announced he was quitting parliament immediately, a day after he’d sent a statement saying he would retire from politics at the upcoming September election, citing mental health issues and recent unspecified mistakes.”

His resignation comes at an extraordinarily turbulent time for the National Party, which faces an uphill battle in trying to defeat popular Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her liberal Labour Party at the election in two months. (AP)

Licence of 68 Pak pilots suspended

Islamabad: Pakistan’s aviation authority has suspended another 68 pilots for possessing dubious licences, taking the number of those taken off duty for flying with fake credentials in the country to 161.

They were suspended by the Aviation Division on Monday, the Dawn newspaper reported.

The suspended persons are among the 262 pilots, who were grounded and put under investigation by the aviation ministry last month, for possessing suspicious licences, according to the newspaper. (PTI)
