Committee introduces slew of strictures to halt protocol violation
NONGSTOIN: The COVID Committee of New Nongstoin Dorbar has introduced a slew of strictures in order to put a stop to violations of the COVID-19-related health protocols. The committee has decided to impose a fine of Rs 100 against violation such as not wearing face masks, gathering of people, etc. It also forbids smoking inside shops as well as out in the public thoroughfares. The volunteers of the dorbar have collected a handsome amount of fines from violators during the two days of implementing the strictures. Meanwhile, Pyndengrei Dorbar and other village dorbars near Nongstoin have also issued similar strictures.
Two Upper Shillong residents missing
SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, on Thursday, informed that two persons from Upper Shillong were missing from their residences. Paul Bhabok Thongni (33), was found missing since 6 am of July 22, while the second person, Richardson Malngiang (28), been missing since 11 pm of June 11 from his residence in Umlyngka Lumpongdeng, Upper Shillong. While Paul is 5 feet 5 inches tall, Richardson is shorter and stands at 5 feet 1 inch, the SP informed in separate statements. Paul Bhabok Thongni was last seen wearing a green T-shirt, black short trousers with green stripe and slippers, according to one of the statements. Phone mentoring for families
SHILLONG: With an aim to disseminate awareness and sensitise vulnerable families including children on psychosocial well-being as well as COVID-19 safety, Reach Shillong Ministries in partnership with Viva Shillong Network and District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), East Khasi Hills, launched the ‘Phone Mentoring Program’ on Thursday. ML Warjri, District Child Protection Officer inaugurated the programme. Others who were present include members from the three agencies. The ‘Phone Mentoring Program’ is an amalgamation of the adolescent mentoring programmes and COVID-19 parenting guidelines of WHO and UNICEF.
Revision of SK Oil price
KHLIEHRIAT: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Jaintia Hills, has informed that the price of SK Oil, for July, has been revised and fixed at Rs 27.69 in Khliehriat (wholesale), Rs 27.91 in Sonapur Oil Agency (wholesale) and Rs 31.60 in Sutnga Sub- Depot (wholesale). The retail price at Khliehriat is Rs 29.59, Sonapur Oil Agency at Rs 29.81 and Sutnga-Sub-Depot at Rs 33.50. The increase of SK Oil prices happens every fortnight.
NESFAS bats for retrofit rooms
SHILLONG: Expressing concern about the elderly members of NESFAS, which comprises 130 communities of North East including Meghalaya, the society has stressed on the need to construct retrofit safety rooms for them. Keeping in mind the tight-knit nature of small rural homes and the challenge this poses to practice social distancing for the elderly, women from Nongtraw, East Khasi Hills, one of the participating villages, suggested the idea of retrofit rooms stating that they would help to identify the needy elders and work with the village council to ensure that 50 per cent of the cost of the retrofit rooms would be generated by the community itself. The women of the participating village also identified three out of the eight vulnerable elders in the village who needed immediate support.
