SHILLONG: Poor families in a containment zone in the city are not getting any ration from authorities.
A family living near the Harrison Bridge told The Shillong Times that the decision to declare the area a containment zone was sudden and there was no time to be prepared.
“We have rice and dal but there is no milk for the children in the house. There are toddlers too and they need milk and biscuits, which we could not purchase. Now that we cannot go out of the area, we cannot even get the items. No one came to give any ration,” said Maya Biswa.
When informed about the plight of the family, the Rangbah Dong of Oxford, B Malngniang said he was not aware. “But we have to take the DC’s permission if we have to open a shop to procure food items for the families. We will try our best to help them,” he added.
A source said that though the request for water was made in the morning, it was supplied only in the afternoon.
The deputy commissioner had earlier assured that the supply of essential items and medical requirements will be ensured through various teams formed by the district administration.
