GUWAHATI: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Sonapur College of Kamrup Metro district in Assam is going to hold a webinar on Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) at 4.30 pm on August 7, 2020.
The webinar, to be held in the ‘ZOOM Meeting’ virtual platform, has been organized in association with the National Coordinating Institute of UBA, the IIT Delhi, informed Dr. Biman Patowary, Coordinator, IQAC, Sonapur College.
He further informed that the theme of the webinar will be “Fostering UBA, a commitment of HEI’s beyond campus: Issues and challenges”. It is worth mentioning here that the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, launched in 2014, is a flagship programme of the Ministry for Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, which aims to link the Higher Education Institutions with a set of at least five villages, so that these institutions can contribute to the economic and social betterment of the village communities using their knowledge base.
The main Objectives of the initiative is to engage the faculty and students of Higher Educational Institutions in identifying development issues in rural areas and finding sustainable solutions for the same by utilising the innovative technologies. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi is the national level coordinating institute for the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) while the IIT, Guwahati is one of the 45 regional coordinating institutes (RCI), taking care of the four north-eastern states, Assam, Meghalaya Mizoram and Nagaland.
The webinar will be formally inaugurated by the Commissioner & Secretary of Higher Education, Government of Assam Preetom Saikia, IAS while Prof. V. K, Vijay, National Coordinator, UBA, IIT, Delhi will deliver the key-note address as the chief guest.
The webinar, to be held under the Chairmanship of Prof. Sashindra Kr. Kakoty, Regional Coordinator, UBA, IIT, Guwahati, will also be addressed by Prof. Vivek Kumar, Co-Coordinator, UBA, IIT, Delhi as appointed speaker. Prof. Kumar will present a few success stories of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
Dr. Devabrot Khanikor, Principal, Sonapur College has requested the Principals, Coordinators of IQAC and the UBA Cells of different colleges, besides other faculty members, of the state as well as the entire region to join the webinar in order to make it a success.
