SHILLONG: In view of the COVID-19 protocols in effect, the Greater Shillong Crematorium & Mortuary Society (GSC&MS), Jhalupara, has rearranged the schedule as well as modified some regulations pertaining to the Jhalupara Electric Crematorium, which will come into force from Friday, a statement said.
Health workers of the Shillong Municipal Board have been advised to use the furnace for the disposal of medical waste from 9 am to 2 pm between Monday and Saturday. After disposing off the waste, the SMB workers will have to sanitise the inner and outer campus of the crematorium building including plant & machineries of the SEC before 2.30 pm for the normal functions to resume.
On the other hand, for general users, the crematorium will be available for incineration between 3 and 9 pm daily (Monday-Saturday). For incineration of a body, which will be done on first-come-first-serve basis, people should furnish the death certificate from a registered medical practitioner or body. The GSC&MS has urged the users as well as attendees to adhere to all SOP and advisories.
