Indigenous Peoples Day
The Meghalaya People’s Human Rights Council (MPHRC) on Monday, while observing the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, recalled the historic adoption of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, where the governments globally, including the Indian government, pledged to recognise, respect, protect and promote the rights of indigenous peoples.

Dry day
The Deputy Commissioner (Excise) of South West Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, has declared dry day on August 15 in the district on account of Independence Day. All liquor shops/IMFL shops, canteens etc, will remain closed on this day and violation of the order will amount to punishment as per law, the DC said.

All faith forum
Leaders of different faiths on Monday formed the Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF) with Bishop P Lyngdoh as the president, Fr John Madur as vice-president, Rev EH Kharkongor as secretary, and Naba Bhattacharjee as joint secretary.
