SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Committee on Women’s Empowerment would conduct an inquiry into the Ganesh Das Hospital incident where a pregnant mother/woman was initially denied admission as she hailed from a containment area.
Chairperson of the Committee, Ampareen Lyngdoh, said that the committee would conduct a spot inspection later this month to be followed by a meeting with the DHS.
Meanwhile, the Committee urged the Social Welfare department to speed up appointment of chairperson of the State Commission for Child Protection.
“We also urge the DGP to immediately send us the requirements to make the Forensic Lab fully operational so that the government may be pressured into taking up the matter,” Lyngdoh added.
