City school completes 100 years
SHILLONG: Islamia Secondary School, Police Bazar, GS Road, has completed its hundred years of existence this year. A statement from the school mentioned that during these 100 years, the school had undergone many ups and downs. The statement added that the foundation of school was meant to establish for education to the students and the needy. The school was established and started by late Hakeem Mohammad Ismail in 1905 at his residence at GS Road, Shillong, where the Broadway Hotel exists now. It was only later that the school was shifted to GS Road.
Online cultural programme
SHILLONG: The Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban, Shillong, will hold a virtual Annual Cultural Programme 2020 owing to the ongoing pandemic situation. In a statement on Friday, the Club said that the video will be released on Saturday at 4pm in YouTube Channel ‘Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban, Shillong’ and Facebook pages of Rabindranath Tagore Club.
GSU forms Phulbari unit
TURA: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) on Friday formed its Phulbari regional unit to look into issues of the region, particularly that of the student community. The new office-bearers are Francewell Ch Marak (president), Joseph R Marak (vice president), Nyezer Chuang Marak (general secretary), Darseng M Sangma (additional general secretary) and Tonang A Sangma (assistant general secretary).
BJP organises cleaning drive
SHILLONG: Hundreds of youth and senior citizens participated in a cleaning drive organised by the BJP members of Tura City District including Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and BJP Mahila Morcha in Tura on Friday. Boston Ch Marak, former CEM of the GHADC, also took part in the activity. This is one of the major activities taken up by BJP after the new District Presidents of Tura City District, Mahila Morcha and BJYM took charge of office. Ronald Sangma has been appointed the president of the Tura City District, Pilne A Sangma as president of Mahila Morcha and Anish M Sangma as the president of BJYM.
