Despite COVID, sports infra preparation on track

SHILLONG: Despite the COVID related disruptions, the state government is leaving no stone unturned in creating the sports infrastructure for hosting the 39th National Games.Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in his Independence Day address on Saturday said that the actual construction of the PA Sangma integrated sports complex in Tura will begin from October this year.The stadium is being constructed with an investment of Rs 125 crore and will be completed by early 2022. The designs for the JLN Integrated Sports Complex in Shillong, which is also being built at a cost of 125 crore, have been finalised. A mega football stadium is also planned to be constructed at Wahiajer, West Jaintia Hills with an investment of Rs. 25 crore. “We are also committed to building rural sports Infrastructure all over the state and another Rs 50 crore will be spent on the same in the next three years”, Conrad said.
