IIM remembers freedom fighters

SHILLONG: The Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, celebrated Independence Day with the flag being hoisted by its Director Prof. DP Goyal followed by rendition of the national anthem.
Addressing faculty members, officials and students, who attended through virtual mode, Goyal talked about how all of them were important pillars of strength for the institute and the nation, a statement said.
“This day is special. It is not only a celebration, but rather we need to remember all those people who have achieved this freedom for us”, he said, while asking to be “grateful and respectful” for their sacrifice.
“The future of the nation rests upon analysing where we stand today and how we envision ourselves as a responsible and sensitive entity of the country towards its development goals,” he exhorted.
“We have been bestowed a rich legacy and now it is our prerogative to nurture and strive to take the institute forward and meet the expectations of being a premier institution of the country, with a global standing and outlook”, he said.
He stressing on being the catalyst for development and positive change especially for the NER given that IIM Shillong is the only such institute in the region. He also urged the fraternity to continue cherishing and upholding the values that have made India what it is today.
Artistic and creative temperament of the students from across the country was also showcased on the occasion. From a vibrant veena performance of Saare Jahaan Se Achchan to a group performance of Vande Mataram, clubbed with poems and melodies reminiscing the country’s resilience and bravery of soldiers made for a spectacular end to the celebration.
