PDS rice released in EKH
SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills, has informed that rice under NFSA (AAY and PHH) and non-NFSA and under PMGKAY for August and wholemeal atta for July is released through the respective fair price shops. Scale of issue — 35 kg per card at Rs 3 per kg for AAY quota, 5 kg per head at Rs 3 per kg for PHH, and 7.215 kg per household at Rs 12.70 to Rs 13.00 per kg for non-NFSA. Rice under PMGKAY scheme will be distributed free of cost at 5 kg per head for AAY and PHH beneficiaries. Wholemeal atta will be issued at the scale of 5 kg per card in urban areas and 3 kg per card in rural areas at Rs 10.50 per kg. Non-supply, overcharging, supply of less prescribed scale or inferior quality may be reported to the Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills, the DC said.
Lions Club hoists flag on I-Day
SHILLONG: The Lions Club of Shillong hoisted the flag on the occasion of 74th Independence Day at Lions Vocational cum Vision Centre recently. The hoisting, which was led by president of the club, BCG Marbaniang, was followed by awareness and distribution of sanitisers and face masks in Jhalupara, Police Bazar, Laitumkhrah market, Goraline, Madanryting , Rilbong. Patients, doctors and staff of Reid Chest (TB) Hospital, Mawbah, also participated in the programme.
Events for electoral literacy clubs
NONGSTOIN: In keeping with the Phase-I target for implementation of the Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) programme, various ELCs participated in different competitions on Wednesday, which were judged in the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, West Khasi Hills. The District Election Officer of West Khasi Hills, T Lyngwa, had earlier invited online participation of various ELCs in events including drawing competition thematised on ‘My Vote My Pride’, creative craft on ‘My Ideal Polling Station’, essay competition on ‘Free, Fair & Safe Election’ and short video clips on ‘My Vote My Voice’. The winners of the competitions will be announced on social media soon, a statement said. The programme was held online due to the ongoing pandemic.
SWGH bans transportation of pigs
TURA: In view of confirmed cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pigs from certain villages of West Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi, the District Magistrate of South West Garo Hills, on Wednesday, banned the import of pigs into the district from other states and districts including Assam-Meghalaya border and Indo-Bangladesh border with a strict warning that violators of the order would invite legal action. In an order, the district magistrate instructed all government and private pig farms as well as pig farmers and rearers to take adequate measures for strict hygiene and bio-security measures such as disinfection of the farms, equipments etc and restricting entry of any outside persons to pig farms. “Sign of high fever in pigs and any abnormal mortality in pigs should be brought to the notice of District AH & Veterinary officer or Block AH & Veterinary officer.
