NONGPOH: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem inaugurated the new wholesale market (Iew die lang) of Marngar area on Tuesday in a bid to ease congestion and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The market, which was inaugurated in the land provided by the Catholic Church, Marngar, in Sarikushi village, will help in easing overcrowding of people, which, in turn, will prevent the deadly virus from spreading to a large extent considering the number of COVID cases is on the rise in the district.
As most of the local populace is farmers, the new market will enable them to sell their products without the need for them to go farther to Mawroh, where the existing wholesale market is located.
The Nongpoh MLA, while thanking the church for providing the land, urged the people to strictly follow the government protocols related to COVID-19.
The programme was also attended by Nongpoh MDC Balajied Rani, and Church and village leaders of Marngar area among others.
