SHILLONG: After the East Khasi Hills District Administration shut down all shops and establishments between Laitumkhrah police point and Mohanson’s Dry Cleaners over violation of health protocols, the Laitumkhrah Dorbar Shnong Pyllun has asked the district administration to reconsider its decision stating that the shop owners have been complying with all norms and they should not be made to suffer for violation by others.
In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, the Dorbar said that major concern should be about the Shillong Municipal Market, Laitumkhrah, where “all rules and norms are flouted daily and with impunity”.
“This market is heavily crowded in the afternoon and, especially in the evening,” the Dorbar added, while urging the Deputy Commissioner to mandate random testing in and around the vicinity of Laitumkhrah market.
The deputy commissioner, earlier, had asked all shops and business establishments to remain closed in Laitumkhrah from Police Point till Mohanson’s Dry Cleaner until further orders in view of non-adherence to norms such as social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing of masks in the areas.
More containment areas
Following detection of positive cases/high-risk contacts, the District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has declared some houses in Harijan Colony, Mawlonghat and Pynthorbah Block-II besides a compound in Jhalupara as containment areas.
The houses of Baldeep Singh, Maya Kaur and Janki Kaur in Plot-I Block A, Harijan Colony, Mawlonghat, Nud Syiemiong in Pynthorbah Block-II as well as Maya Compound in Jhalupara have been declared as containment areas, the district magistrate said, while also extending the containment order for areas from Jhalupara Community Hall, Gopal Ji Compound till Musa Compound.

On the other hand, the district magistrate, based on the contact tracing status and test reports of the high-risk contacts, lifted the containment orders for the house of Pynhunlang Lyngdoh at Lower Lummawrie as well as house number U/B-007 behind Victoria Landmark Guest House, Upper Nongrim Hills.
