NONGPOH: The government is contemplating to upscale the healthcare in the state by upgrading all health centres including Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs) and has earmarked Rs 75 crore for the move.
Health Minister AL Hek revealed this while inspecting the Byrnihat PHC on Thursday.
The Health Minister said that several conditions need to be fulfilled in order to upgrade a PHC into a CHC, while adding that infrastructure, doctors and staff as well as medical equipment and medicines will be part of the upgrade plan.
Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun had earlier written to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Health Minister Hek urging them to consider upgradation of the Byrnihat PHC into a CHC considering that the PHC was providing its services to around 48,000 people.
During the inspection, Hek was accompanied by the Director of Health Service (MI), Dr Aman War and Executive Engineer, Health Engineering Wing, M Shylla, in the presence of Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, local MDC Victor Rani, DM&HO of Ri Bhoi Dr M Mawrie and headmen of several villages.
Meanwhile, the legislators from Jirang thanked the government for listening to the pleas of the people and their vision in providing better healthcare to people.
