SHILLONG: With the JEE and NEET Examinations 2020 at hand, especially at the time when six states have already filed review petition of the Supreme Court order dated August 17, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Meghalaya, has sought transportation and accommodation facilities for the students appearing for the examinations.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the ABVP has also sought other basic essentials like masks, sanitisers and face shields for the students appearing for NEET and JEE Exams 2020.
“If you can kindly assure them and provide basic essentials like masks, sanitisers and face shields, it will be a blessing in disguise for them,” a statement from the ABVP read.
Hailing the government for its “commendable” COVID-19-handling, the ABVP said that many students, prioritising their health, are apprehensive of sitting for the examinations, thereby leading to a downright waste of time and money for preparations.
The Supreme Court had, in its August 17 order, said that life should move on even in COVID-19 times.
Declining to entertain a plea seeking the postponement of the NEET and JEE examination slated in September, a bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra noted that the postponement of the examinations will put the career of the students in peril.
Justice Mishra said that if the examinations are not held, then would it not be a loss for the country? Students will lose the academic year.
Declining to entertain the plea, Justice Mishra told the petitioners’ counsel, “Are you not demanding that the court should be opened up amid COVID-19? Do you see this glass partition here? When we are getting ready to open up, you say exams should not be held?” (With Inputs From IANS)
