SHILLONG: The members of KSU, FKJGP, HNYF and RBYF on Monday met Agriculture Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh, and deliberated over the anomalies in the seat allocation to the four-year B.Sc. (Hon) course at College of Agriculture, Imphal, Manipur.
Speaking to reporters after meeting, KSU president, Lambok Marngar, expressed dissatisfaction with the list, which saw the allocation of seats to three candidates — two Scheduled Caste (SCs) and one Other Tribe (OT).
Stating that the academic quota was not followed, he argued that the ST candidates were deprived of their opportunities.
Marngar also said that the Agriculture minister has assured of rectifying the list.
“We met the minister; there were positive talks, and he also assured to scrutinise the list again and rectify the list. The spirit of the reservation policy should not be diluted. The department will relook at the list,” the KSU president said.
Lambasting the officers of the Agriculture department, he alleged that the flawed allocation was intentional and not a mistake.
FKJGP president, Wellbirth Rani, said that the allocation of seats to the non-ST students is a violation of the reservation policy of the state.
General secretary of KSU, Donald Thabah, said the officers of the department are experienced enough and to say that they made a mistake, is not correct.
Seeking government action against the “erring officers”, he said, “Agriculture department intended to take us for a ride as there is a downright violation of procedure of state reservation policy”.
