TURA: Peeved at the lack of any initiative from the PWD to repair the roads along the plains of West Garo Hills, the regional unit of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), central executive committee, has dashed off a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, with photographs, about the deplorable condition of the Phulbari-Chibinang Road, which is a lifeline for lakhs of people residing in that part of the region bordering Assam.
“This road is the lifeline for thousands of families who use it on a daily basis for their livelihood. However, this road has become an impediment for smooth travel due to the condition. There are potholes in every ten metre of the road and people find extreme difficulty just to walk on it,” complained the students’ body.
According to the union, no repair work has been undertaken ever since the road’s expansion over two years ago.
