SHILLONG: Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR) and Hawkers Association have expressed discontent over state government’s decision of temporarily allowing 5-6 places including Polo parking lot for hawkers to continue with their hawking activities.
They have also asserted that the hawkers would eventually come out to the streets for their earning.
TUR member, Angela Rangad, said the Association has more than 1,200 registered hawkers whereas the government has announced the facility only for 300-400 hawkers.
Criticising the state government for delaying implementation of the Central Street Vendors Act, she said the hawkers have been patient for the last few months.
Alleging that most of the hawkers were denied monetary support of Rs 700 from the government, she said that there is no other option left for them but to come out to the streets for earning.
