CM announces Rs 6.4 cr for better water supply in Mawlai

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 6.4 crore for the renovation of old pipelines and feeder lines in Mawlai constituency.
The funding for the first phase of work will be met through the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), a centrally-sponsored scheme for urban development.
Meeting PHE officials and other stakeholders in the presence of local MLA, PT Sawkmie, the chief minister said it is the endeavour of the government to ensure proper piped water supply reaches all households in the rural areas.
He added that through the implementation of various programmes and schemes, a massive effort is being made both by the central and the state governments to overhaul the existing water supply infrastructure in the urban areas.
“There is a massive work and programme going on, with the efforts of both central and state governments, to provide proper drinking water supply through pipelines,” the chief minister asserted.
Inspection at Upper Mawprem, Iewduh
PHE Minister, Samlin Malngiang, along with the local MLA, Mohindro Rapsang, and the members of the Dorbar Shnong of the ten localities falling under West Shillong constituency visited the water storage tank at Upper Mawprem and Iewduh.
During the joint inspection, the members of the Dorbar Shnong and the local MLA acknowledged Malngiang for assuring to complete water storage tank at Khlieh Iew within December this year.
