IMPHAL: Manipur Education Minister, Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam, on Monday advocated the use of Hindi language, saying that the language is like the thread in a garland binding varieties of flowers.
Referring to the credo ‘Unity in Diversity’, he said Hindi language has been able to bring closeness and togetherness among the vast Indian population where many languages and dialects are spoken.
Radheshyam added that albeit every region and people in India has its own language or dialect, Hindi, which is one of the official languages of India, is usually the preferred choice of language as the medium of communication.
Whenever one travels outside the state, the common language for communication is Hindi, he said.
The state education minister was speaking as a chief guest at the national webinar on ‘Rashtriya Ekatmata Aur Hindi’ on the occasion of Hindi Diwas.
The webinar was organised by the Department of Hindi, Manipur University in collaboration with Shiksha Sanskriti. Stating that Hindi language, because of its easiness and beauty, is loved by the people from across the world, he said on a global level, Hindi is spoken by more than 600 million people and is among the top languages that has the most speakers.
“By understanding its importance and value, the language needs to be popularised,” he said.
To realise the dream of making India a ‘Global Knowledge Super Power’ it is important that Hindi language is developed and advanced.
Hindi Diwas is celebrated on September 14 every year to celebrate the language and to commemorate the event when it was adopted as one of the official languages of India.
The Constituent Assembly of India had, in 1949, recognised and adopted Hindi language written in the Devanagari script as the official language of the newly formed nation.
Hindi is one of the two official languages of the Union government, the other being English.
