TURA: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh on Thursday called a meeting in his office chamber with regard to the proposed launching of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) Vaccination Campaign in the West Garo Hills District from October 1.
It may be mentioned that the said vaccine was supposed to be administered in the month of March, but was delayed due to lockdown on Covid-19.
Emphasizing on the importance of the vaccination campaign while at the same time reminding of the several cases of JE in the district earlier, Ram Singh advised all parents in the district to cooperate for immunisation of their children between the age of 1 to 15 years without any inhibition so that they stay healthy in future.
During the meeting, District Maternal and Child Health Officer, Dr Ivonne M Sangma informed that JE vaccines have already arrived in the district and required activities for sensitizing the people are being organised adding that announcements would be done from Friday in urban areas. She also informed that National De-Worming program would also be done simultaneously during this campaign.
In view of schools being closed due to covid-19 pandemic, Sangma informed that vaccination campaign would be held in the community level and camps would be organised in the respective community halls in all the localities of the district by strictly adhering to the Covid-19 protocols and guidelines issued by the Government.
District Medical and Health Officer, Dr. Marwin R Sangma, Medical and Health Officers of the District, District Program Officer, ICDS, Tura C Arengh were among others present at the meeting.
