NONGPOH: In another yet peculiar incident relating to bonhomie, an aged man was allegedly beaten up black and blue by his friend in Ri Bhoi, who later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
Sources informed that the incident happened at Umran Niangbyrnai village, Ri Bhoi, on the evening of October 11, wherein Dolimon Shadap (40), hailing from Chitor Nongsangu, thrashed his own friend, identified Engloma Khiangte, following which the latter suffered severe injuries. Khiangte was immediately rushed to Shillong Civil Hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries the next day.
Umsning Police have arrested the perpetrator of the crime and the investigation in the case is under way.
Headman of Umran Ningbyrnai, Stephan Kharbani, expressed shock over the incident and informed that the two — Dolimon Shadap and the deceased, Engloma Khiangte — were good friends. However, he said that the reason behind Dolimon assaulting his friend was unknown.
He also informed that such incident has not happened in the past, and, speaking on behalf of the village, he added that the act is strongly condemnable.
