Youth policy in the offing

SHILLONG: A review meeting was convened by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday with officials of the Sports and Youth Affairs department on the draft ‘Meghalaya State Youth Policy’ in the presence of Sports & Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh.
After the meeting, it transpired that by the first week of November, the draft policy will be made available in the public platform to solicit opinions and suggestions.
On receiving feedback, it will be given final shape and then be tabled in the cabinet.
In the meeting, the chief minister and other officials discussed at length different components of the policy that encompass development of a holistic atmosphere for youth to engage in different activities in the fields of sports, co-curricular activities, entrepreneurship and skill-based learning.
Developing critical thinking amongst the youths, engaging them in innovative and welfare activities besides promoting leadership were other areas where emphasis was put in the meeting.
