SHILLONG, Nov 11: After heated debates between the Opposition and the government, the House was given a brief light moment where all burst into laughter when South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai had the floor to himself and claimed to have found a cure to COVID-19 eight months ago.
Shullai revealed that he found the cure during an interaction with a beggar. This statement got everyone’s laughter resounding in the House until he narrated the entire story.
Explaining his hypothesis, the MLA said that his constituency has a number of beggars, and during an interaction with one of them, he asked if they (beggars) were scared of the virus as their hygiene was not on point. “I asked them if they were not scared of the coronavirus as they did not brush their teeth, did not take bath for years and neither did they wear any mask, and sleep on roadside,” he elaborated.
To the query, the beggar replied: “No, there is God”.
Stating that one will not find even a single beggar dying of COVID-19, Shullai ended his narration by saying, “Let us pray for each other”.
On the other hand, Shullai lauded the initiative of the state government for sanctioning the outdoor stadium in his constituency, of which work has started.
Garrison ground
He further informed that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has tasked him to lead a delegation to meet the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh after the Assembly Session and request him to transfer garrison ground from the jurisdiction of defence authority to Meghalaya Government.
Shullai expressed gratitude for the Rs 25-lakh MLA’s Scheme, stating that it enabled the legislators to reach out to the people during trying times.
He signed off by requesting the Congress to join hands with the MDA under Conrad Sangma.
