Felicitation of meritorious students
SHILLONG, Nov 20: The Shillong Shreehatta Sammilanee will felicitate as many as 43 meritorious Bengali students from the city, which includes 13 rank holders, who have passed the Class X and XII examinations this year under MBoSE, CBSE and ICSE with flying colours. The felicitation programme will be held at the Bangiya Sahitya Parisad Auditorium, Jail Road, at 11 am on Sunday. Through the programme, the organisation will also extend financial assistance to 14 Bengali students with weak financial background who have secured more than 60 per cent marks in aggregate.

Assam Rifles holds webinar
SHILLONG, Nov 20: The Assam Rifles and United Service Institution (USI) of India organised the first Assam Rifles Martyrs’ Memorial Webinar which was attended by over 500 participants including serving and retired officers from Army, Assam Rifles, CAPFs and civil dignitaries. During the webinar — which was thematised on ‘Role of Assam Rifles in the Act East Policy in the backdrop of North East Security Calculus’ — the strategic paradigm of North East, Act East Policy and the role of Assam Rifles were discussed.

Cooperative week concludes
SHILLONG, Nov 20: The weeklong celebration of the 67th All India Cooperative Week culminated with a celebration organised at the Yojana Bhavan, Main Secretariat, on Friday. The culminating event, thematised on ‘COVID Pandemic Atmanirbhan Bharat – Cooperatives’, was organised by the Department of Cooperation, office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd, in collaboration with the State Level Cooperative Federations. Also, three booklets documenting the successes and achievements of cooperative societies in Meghalaya were also released.

SPARK observes Child Rights Day
SHILLONG, Nov 20: In a bid to empower children, SPARK, a social organisation, organised a series of programmes to disseminate awareness on child rights – their role and responsibilities besides sensitising parents, youths and community on the issues as part of the observance of International Child Rights Day. The highlight of the programme was the formation of children’s group at Mawlynrei Triashnong Village, Mawlong Village, Rangmen Village and Bara Bazaar Slum, with the objective of empowering and building up the capacity of children to stand against crime and exploitation against children. Also, all the participants stood up and pledged to ensure the rights of every child.

NESAC campus contained again
NONGPOH, Nov 20: After being contained till November 19, the bind of COVID-19 has not yet loosened its grip on the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), Umiam, as the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, on Friday, issued another order declaring NESAC as containment zone one more time around. The order comes in effect from November 20 to 25.
