SHILLONG, Nov 26: Governor of Meghalaya Satya Pal Malik, on Thursday, visited Sohra while also taking stock of the administration of Sohra Civil Sub-Division.
On arrival at the Circuit House, the Governor took the Guard of Honour in the presence of the officials of Sohra Civil Sub-Division and later had a brief interaction with them.
AS Mukhim, Sub-Divisional Officer (C) of Sohra apprised the Governor of the formation of the civil sub-division besides the number of blocks in the region, its population and literacy rate – which stands at 74 per cent. The Governor was also informed on the status of primary education, centrally sponsored schemes and different livelihoods activities carried out by the locals and the variety of flora and fauna found under the particular area.
Later in the day, the Governor also visited Ramakrishna Mission, Sohra, and interacted with the kids there.
Brookside visit
Following this errand, the Governor is also set to visit Brookside at Rilbong, on November 30, where Rabindranath Tagore had stayed in October, 1919, according to a statement issued here.
A total of 15 Tagore admirers of Shillong will be present during Governor’s visit and all protocols pertaining to COVID-19 will be conformed with.
Director of Arts and Culture department is likely to extend its cooperation and support during his visit.
