SHILLONG, Nov 26: The devil-may-care disposition as a pillion on two-wheelers will soon become forgotten tales as the police are pressing for the new safety rule — wearing helmets by both the rider and pillion when commuting across Shillong, which will come in effect from December 1.
In a statement, the police have instructed the general public to be accustomed to the habit of wearing a helmet as the pillion and more importantly as the rider.
The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has conducted awareness drive on the subject, the statement said, while adding that the rule will be enforced from December 1 and violators will be booked under relevant laws.
The police have further asked the headmen across East Khasi Hills to disseminate this information to the locals in all localities.
