North India likely to have harsher winter
New Delhi, Nov 29: North India is likely to expect a harsher winter and can see a rise in the frequency of cold waves this season, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrutunjay Mohapatra said on Sunday. The IMD, in its winter forecast for December to February, said below normal minimum temperatures are likely over north and central India. “The winter is likely to be harsher in north India this season,” Mohapatra said. He added that the night temperatures in north India are likely to be below normal, while the day temperatures are expected to be above normal. (PTI)

Artificial potato crisis created in Bengal
Kolkata, Nov 29: Hitting out at the TMC government in West Bengal, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh on Sunday alleged that an “artificial potato crisis” has been created in the state by those patronised by the ruling party. Expressing concern over the “sudden spurt in the price of the kitchen staple, now available at Rs 40 per kg, if not more”, Ghosh said this has hurt common man and pinched their pockets hard. “Why is the price of potato so high? The crisis has been created artificially by those patronised by the ruling party. It has been created by those who take cut money for everything,” Ghosh told reporters here. (PTI)

Nepal girl travels to MP to meet her FB friend
Sehore (MP), Nov 29: A 16-year-old girl from Nepal travelled to Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh to meet her Facebook friend, a 20-year-old man, only to be handed over to a children welfare committee in Bhopal, police said on Sunday. The girl, a resident of Kathmandu, told the police she had been in touch with the man, who lives in Ashta town in Sehore district, since the last two years via Facebook, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Mohan Sarwan told reporters. “The girl told us that she flew to India from Kathmandu. She then travelled on buses in various cities in India before reaching her destination on Saturday,” the SDOP said. (PTI)

Woman fatally shot in head during robbery
Patna, Nov 29: A woman was fatally shot in her head by robbers after she resisted their move to loot passengers of an aut-rickshaw in state capital Patna, police said on Sunday. Saiqa Parveen was travelling with her husband Imran Alam in the auto-rickshaw when she was shot dead late Saturday night. Police said that when the auto-rickshaw reached Chiraiyatadh flyover near Patna railway station, two men riding it asked the driver to stop. Two more persons riding two motorcycles reached the spot and looted all the passengers at gunpoint. (PTI)
