TURA, Dec 7: A day after West Garo Hills Police successfully rescued a kidnapped fish seller from a village in the Chibinang- Tikrikilla region, four of the main members of the gang behind the abduction have been arrested within the last twenty-four hours from the same place.
The first criminal from the group, identified as Chekam Sangma, was caught from Bollonggitok village of Tikrikilla on Sunday itself.
Subsequent operations that went on late into the night resulted in the capture of three other members of the gang identified as Maruti N Marak, Sengrak Ch Marak and Bilbit N Sangma — all hailing from Kamari village of Tikrikilla.
Police recovered a mobile phone from their possession belonging to one of the criminal.
However, the stolen phone from the fish trader is yet to be found.
Two remaining associates of the gang, who helped in concealing the victim from Bandangre village, are currently absconding since the rescue operation unfolded.
A day after fish monger Sayful Islam of Bholarbita was kidnapped while proceeding to a marriage party to deliver fish, police successfully rescued him before any ransom could be paid for him.
The kidnappers had demanded ransom money of Rs 15 lakh for his safe return compelling the family to turn to police for help. Operations launched from Bholarbita outpost police team quickly led them to a house near the home of the Nokma of Bandangre from where they brought out Sayful Islam safe and sound while the kidnappers fled, only to be caught a day later.
