SHILLONG, Dec 8: SPARK recently organised a four-day sensitisation programme on empowerment of women and community, which concluded on Tuesday.
The programme, which was supported by the Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills, witnessed various follow-up activities.
The programme was organised in a bid to help build the capacity of the community members as well as to empower them to efficiently address various social issues concerning women and children.
“Altogether, more than 400 participants attended the programme which was held at Pongkung Village, Mawlynrei Triashnong Village, Rangmen Village and Bara Bazaar Slum,” the statement said.
The resource persons for the programme were from North East Domestic Workers’ Movement, Kripa Foundation, Indian Red Cross Society, SPARK, IGNOU and others.
The attendees were also trained on First Aid so as to self-treat minor wounds and avoid going to hospitals, especially at the juncture of COVID-19.
Documentary films on issues pertaining to human trafficking and crime against women were also screened. “Also, cases related to abuse were reported during the sensitisation programme which was forwarded to the concerned departments for follow-up,” the statement said.
