SHILLONG, Dec 19: Phulbari MLA, SG Esmatur Mominin, has highlighted the need for the state government to shift focus from the already-developed places of tourist interest towards developing the tourism in the Garo Hills region.
“The region is blessed with a lot of places of tourist interest and it would be very beneficial for the people if it can be developed,” said Mominin.
Informing that he has been demanding revamp of many tourist spots in the region, the NPP MLA said, “There are many places of attraction in Garo Hills, yet the state government, which is focused on Khasi and Jaintia Hills, is yet to focus on Garo Hills”.
Beseeching the state government to give the same amount of attention to Garo Hills, Mominin said, “The Chief Minister is acquainted with the area and I hope he will do something”.
“In my area there is a place called Chandigiri near Rongai River, which is a great picnic spot and every year people from different parts of Garo Hills and Assam throng the area,” he said.
