SHILLONG, Jan 4: Members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Monday greeted Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju with a protest outside the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Some 40 of them stood at the site holding placards and banners with messages such as “we reject CAA and accept ILP.”
Rijiju had gone to inaugurate the Synthetic Athletic Track and Field and the Synthetic Football Ground at SAI Training Centre at the NEHU campus.
“We will continue to protest. We wanted to send across a message that they should discuss the demand for the implementation of ILP in the state with the Prime Minister or the Union Home Minister,” KSU president, Lambokstar Marngar, said.
The central government has to respect the resolution passed by the state government for implementing ILP in the state, he said.
The KSU president viewed the delay in ILP’s implementation as a political injustice by the central government towards Meghalaya.
“Since they have already listened to the voices of the people of Manipur and implemented it in that state, I think it is the right time they do it in Meghalaya,” Marngar insisted.
